  • Notes
    • Henry Musselman Family of Hempfield tp.

      Early Lancaster County Tax Records:
      Henry Musselman, Conestoga, 1719-1726

      Hempfield tp. tax records:
      Henry Musselman, 1751, 300A
      Widow Musselman, 1756-1757, 300A (Henry's widow '56)
      Henry Musselman, 1756-1789+, 230A (missing '59; old '81; oil mill '86-88)
      Peter Musselman, 1757-1789+, 160A (freeman '57; old '81)

ANALYSIS: Deed M3-542 proves Henry's siblings. His full family record is proven in the same indenture and confirmed in the following: P23, S22, and WW-211. His patent records must be checked in order to confirm that he is the same man who settled in early Conestoga tp., circa 1717. I hesitate because his children-and siblings-seem much too young to have a brother/father born circa 1698. I cannot rule out an earlier, unknown Henry until all land records have been checked.

      MUSSELMAN, HENRY Twp. omitted.
      April 20, 1752 June 2, 1752
      Wife: Elizabeth Musselman.
Children: Henry, Peter, Elizabeth and Maria.
Ex.: Joseph Gochnower and Jacob Shally.

NOTE: I have not viewed the above last will & testament; however, the following details from the testament were provided by Emily D. Phelan on page 18 of Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage, January 1989, within footnote 24:
      1. Will Y2-496
      2. Names brother-in-law Joseph Gochenauer
      3. Henry Mussleman devised his real estate unto his children, share and share alike.
--Of significance: Joseph Gochenauer is most likely a brother to Henry's wife; however, some believe her to be surnamed Meyer. For the latter, the following unchecked evidence is cited: Chester County Deed 90 (Chester County Archives) and PMH, April 1788, page 43.

      MARRIAGE EVIDENCE:

AA-231: John Stoner, yeoman, & his wife Barbara of Hempfield tp. enf-rel.to Henry Funk, yeoman, of Manor tp.
15a, 100p Manor tp., including a gristmill & sawmill: HISTORY: Part of 95a that Martin Overholtzer & his wife Elizabeth, Philip Yenoway & his wife Ann, Henry Musselman & his wife Magdalena, and Fronica Overholtzer granted 10 June 1758 to Jacob Overholtzer. On 1 May 1759, Jacob Overholtzer & his wife Catharine assigned the same to Martin Overholtzer. On 23 Aug 1766, Martin Overholtzer & his wife Elizabeth granted 15a, 100p to John Stoner (Ref. Deed M272). On 21 Nov 1769, John Stoner & John Kilhoffer [owner of an adjacent tract] forged an agreement concerning a the erection of a mill and milldam on John Stoner's property that led to certain parts of Kilhoffer's tract being flooded.
